on the Arcachon Basin
Embark on the discovery of one of the most beautiful sites of the Arcachon Basin by canoeing and kayaking: the Bird Island and its iconic ‘tchanquées’ huts, the Dune du Pilat, the Banc d’Arguin, oyster ports, and the delta of the Leyre River.
You will experience a truly relaxing and exotic moment, following the rhythm of the tides.
On the Arcachon Basin, you will embark on a kayaking adventure, guided by state-certified instructors, exploring several sites:
Dune du Pilat (Duration: 3h): Departing from Pyla Sur Mer, you will head towards Banc d’Arguin, a vast expanse of sand (nature reserve) visible from the Dune du Pilat. Together, we will appreciate the delicate balance of this environment, taking a break to observe nature through binoculars (seagulls, terns, oystercatchers, plovers, etc.).
This excursion is suitable for the whole family, with the only prerequisite being the ability to swim. We start at the end of one tide and return with the beginning of the next, ensuring a pleasant journey.
On the way back, we stop at the foot of the Dune to observe its unique vegetation—a true environmental expedition to better understand the formation of the Basin and its environmental challenges.
Bird Island and ‘Tchanquées’ Huts (Duration: 4h): Departing from Arcachon, you will head towards this iconic site of the Arcachon Basin, passing by oyster farms. This is an opportunity to observe the various bird species on the stakes. We then make a stop at the ‘tchanquées’ huts, offering a 360° view of the Arcachon Basin.
We pause near the island to share its heritage, exploring its five villages. This trip is for those in good physical condition, and the ability to swim is mandatory. You will cover a total distance of 10km! We always navigate with the tides, departing from Arcachon with the rising tide and returning with the falling tide.
This often requires an early morning start, but it’s truly worth it!
Practical Information
Sit-on-top kayak Dag Treck2 (2 adult seats and 1 central seat for a child), Mandatory flotation vest, Asymmetric double-bladed paddle.
Swimsuit, closed-toe shoes, T-shirt, glasses strap, sunscreen, hat, water bottle, spare clothing, and a small snack for longer outings are required.
Swimming ability required: 25 meters
For all full-day or half-day rentals, please bring a valid identification and a security deposit check equivalent to the value of the equipment.
